SIFA HASSAN BECAME THE S3COND WOMAN IN HISTORY TO WIN 3 GOLD MEDALS | #SIDAHASSAN | #TOKYO2020 | #NETHERLANDS
Sifan Hassan won her third medal of the games and second gold, with victory in the 10,000m
Two out of three ain’t bad. In a blur of orange Sifan Hassan won her second gold medal of these Games in the 10,000m on Saturday, taking compensation of sorts after falling short of her hopes of a top-step treble.
By her own admission prior to the Olympics, the plan of winning each of the 1500m, 5,000m and 10,000m was ‘crazy’.
But perhaps the more barking reality is that she got so close, with this win adding to the gold she took in the 5,000m five days earlier.

The only blip in an otherwise historic range of successes was her 1500m bronze, when exhaustion allowed Faith Kipyegon to beat her convincingly, and Britain’s own Laura Muir took silver.
The haul, and more pointedly the conquering of six races across three very different disciplines, makes Hassan the standout female track and field performer of the Games.
Whether folk will welcome that of an athlete who worked under Alberto Salazar is quite possibly another discussion.
