Intercontinental Champions' Supercup
Intercontinental Supercup (English and Intercontinental Champions ' Supercup, Spanish Recopa Intercontinental or Super Copa de Campeones Inter continental ) was an intercontinental football club competition, which was only in 1969 played with an encounter. Eligible were fixed so far Winner of the World Cup, also known as in German-speaking Europe - South American Cup.
Potential participants for the first edition in 1969 were from Europe Real Madrid (winner 1960) and Inter Milan (1964, 1965). From South America were eligible CA Peñarol (winner 1961, 1966), Santos (1962, 1963) and Racing Club ( Avellaneda ) ( 1967). The finalists should be determined in each continental qualifying rounds. Da Real Madrid withdrew its participation, Inter Milan was fixed without a fight as European finalists. In South America, the Super Copa de Campeones Inter continental served as a qualification tournament. Here sat through in a league round with round-trip game, Santos and qualified so for the final against Inter Milan.
For the second Ausflage 1970 said beside Real Madrid, which again renounced, even Inter Milan his participation, so that no European representative took. The South American qualifying tournament whose participants had been added to Estudiantes de La Plata ( winner of the World Cup in 1968 ), won CA Peñarol. Ultimately, no title has been played already in its second edition.
Due to the low interest mainly of clubs from Europe and scheduling reasons for a planned 1971 third discharge was no longer civil.
